Quotes I couldn't put this book down. I ended up staying up until the wee hours of the morning because I couldn't wait to see how the two sets of characters finally connected. Refreshing book about life and death-all written in the beautiful backdrop of the Carolinas. Must read! Quotes

Quotes My husband gifted me with this book and I gobbled it up! I liked the format of weaving 2 separate stories together in the end. Deena crafted an ending that satisfied but wasn't pat and all tied up. The book was realistic. The description was just enough to give me a feel for the area. The conversational styles were appropriate and I enjoyed following the thought life of the characters. Left me wanting more - a good way to end a book! Liked it enough to send to my cousin. Quotes

Quotes Deena Bouknight's book, "Broken Shells", tells two tales: one of a gracious and respectable Southern spinster, Ellen Whitecastle, and the other, Daniel - an attorney and part time whitewater rafting guide. Bouknight weaves their two stories together in a richly detailed description of life in South Carolina. Ellen's growing awareness of Maxine's illness begins to bring out a side of Ellen that she has tried to keep hidden for years. The parallel story of Daniel's rafting adventure in the wilds of the Carolina mountains built up the suspense and made me ache to know how these two stories would intersect. Bouknight is a gifted storyteller with a discerning eye for Southern detail, whether it be the names of garden plants or the fauna of the Carolina beaches and mountains or antique furniture. And there is an underlying theme of faith that suggests a redemption for all those who trust in the Lord. She has written a charming and enjoyable book, and I hope it is the first of many more!
